My boy was sent to a vet that I don't use to get scanned. (he was on loan) Scan came back with serious prognosis.

So, I asked this vet practice TWO WEEKS ago to send me a letter detailing the results and to forward on the scans to my vet. I have rung numerous times and this still hasn't happened.

My vet needs to recommend him for surgery to an equine hospital and cannot do so without the scans so my boy is just left sitting in a field waiting! Arrrgh!

Now wondering if I should just turn up and demand the information off their computers.

They're supposed to be one of the best clinics in the area too.

Deja vu - I had a similar situation with my old vet practice. They were/are AWFUL with their paperwork and have a total lack of customer service (not to mention one of their vets is unreliable with their work unless the horse they are looking at is a pure TB - every horse of mine she has seen has been met with "how much TB has it got in it?" as the opening question...) I pestered and pestered about them arranging a referral for my horse for MRI. Once she had finally had the MRI and been diagnosed, the treating vet told me to give up and shoot my horse. I told him where to stick his gun and moved to another practice.
I love my current vet, she is FAB as is the practice, their receptionists are so very polite and friendly and helpful. Best of all their paperwork is always kept up-to-date.
My old vet practice is very well-accredited and very well-known... I don't touch them now unless it is unavoidable! It's just poor service IMO. Good luck in extracting the paperwork from your vet practice - I found turning up at reception works wonders

Have to say that the main vet at my local practise is great with all of them (even when he did get an artery on my horse spurting blood all over him

) but some of the 'newbies' aren't as good. he also uses our TB (ex-racehorse) as a bit of a demo horse - always gets the students to feel his tendons - to let them know how f*cked up they can get!!

Ring up tomorrow morning at 9.01am and tell them you'll be turning up at x o'clock to collect your scans. Try and sound forceful, but slghtly neurotic (not difficult in my case) as no practice wants a hysterical client clogging up their reception area.

Yes all vets hate paperwork, but I have found that they hate annoyingly persistent clients even more. They will curse you for a while and you will have a 666 stamped on your clients file but at least you will have your scans and report !

It's not my vet practice, so I can be as arsey as I want!

They also owe me a fair whack of money as when I went to collect my horse, they wouldn't let him off the yard before the bill was paid. Except I never sent my horse there, never agreed to any treatment and the bill wasn't in my name! (He was on loan)

The usual practice in circumstances like this would be for your vets to request the history from the vets that did the scans and ask for the clinical notes to be faxed over. Most vets don't give the notes directly to the client although a few do.
Which vets was it - you can PM me if you want. The one I am thinking it might be has a very experienced senior partner and then a load of assistants and while he is very good at his work he is possibly the most disorganised man I've ever met. LOL
Also I don't think you'd be able to request the money back off the practice - you would have to claim it back from the person who had your horse on loan - assuming you had some sort of formal agreement re who was responsible for the vets fees incurred.
