I'm pleased to say that he has calmed himself down this week.

I have been hacking him out daily thinking that a change of scenery may be beneficial too, and I have to say that apart from being quite enthusiastic, he actually hasn't spooked or spun at all, infact he has been quite a well mannered horse for a change!

I also added my snaffle rein again so I have the added bonus of not having him fighting that gag action, but still have breaks when I need them.

(thank you for all of your help and advice!)

Really pleased for u. When would u like to swap for a couple weeks so u can fix my tank for me? Lol

Thanks :D You would have been welcome to him last week! :p

wheyy you remembered to put the double reins back on :)
glad he is going well

Yes! Have you been riding with yours? I had amost forgotten how much more relaxed with his head he was on the snaffle ring!

You both look very happy and relaxed in that photo! He's lovely. I love the markings on his face.

To be honest, I got one photo of him standing out of 10 that were taken.. the rest came out with him jogging on the spot like this

(excuse the cat, she's fascinated by him. This was seconds before she made a grab for his tail then ran away)

:p

Lovely horse!
Well done for riding him with 2 reins - I really hate to see gags used with one rein, it can often cause the bit to swivel in the mouth - very uncomfortable.
Can I suggest that you turn your hands, so that you look as if you are holding a cup of coffee in each hand? - Try not to spill the coffee! That will also make him more comfortable and more responsive to your aids. Flattening your hands (as in your pics) will give you emergency breaks.

:D Thank you! he is such a gentle soul, that's why I was so worried when he was getting himself in a state (or rather, was in a constant state!)

Very honest, cheeky and he loves to jump. I know I posted this photo before, but it makes me smile so much, I think I will share again :D This was with no whips/chasing/whatever, he just wanted to do it

Yes, It's interesting to see how different he is with the two reins, much more relaxed, but he is more likely to lean on me if I 'stop' riding him.. he would never dream of doing that if I was riding off my gag rein.

a bad habit of mine, I'm always waiting for someone to notice  Generally when we're moving, and not stood still, my right hand is fine  but my left is always tilted like that.. I will try and remember :)
