Any ideas?

He's got bad seperation anxiety due to having a really bad and abusive past and is majorly attached to my other mare who is on box rest to.
Her injury means she has to do 2x 20 mins in hand walking daily and during this time he's box walking, rearing, kicking the walls, coming over his stable door (front legs) lathering up in sweat and kicking the door which is obviously not good for him. He doesn't want me to go in her stable or anywhere near her.
Due to him being on minimal movement hand grazing/walking isn't an option so when I go in his stable he's trying to barge (even with a stall chain) and kick who ever is closest to him, trying to break off when he's tied up and just being a dangerous loon..
He gets 3 small soaked for 12hrs nets of hay a day and a sprinkle of happy hoof with the dose of sedalin a shire horse should have 2x a day and he's still off his rocker..

All this stress is going to give him colic and is no good for his injury to heal..

Any ideas?? :)

Can't wait for him to be able to go out/be ridden again! :p

sorry no ideas but i feel ur pain! my little welsh lasted 3 days on a 2 week laminitic box rest after spending an entire night and morning attempting to throw himself over the stable door...it was exhausting trying to calm him for over 4 hours and in the end he was boarded up and his best friend put in the stable next door!...cue a very rapid vet check and a bare paddock organised pronto!

Try giving him Klop, my daughter has a very stressy mare, this stuff has the mare so calm, she hacks out in the New Forest alone, the same mare who broke my OH's ribs twice while stressing to get to her pal 20ft away in the yard. What have you to lose

Valerian worked for me when mine had to stay calm to heal. Went from rearing & broncing in her box to just alert. Would food such as a swede on a rope also help while the mares walking?

valerian, acp, sodium bromin, a bigger does of sedalin?

Really the best thing would be to speak to your vet who can observe the pony and see him in action and will know what the best plan of action would be.

Is it worth asking your vet if you can tun out into a tiny paddock

I would try this - depending on the reason he's on box rest, it sounds like he could do himself more damage being on box rest than he could if you put him on restricted paddock turnout. Would that be possible? Better to have him calmer with a bit more movement than have him getting wound up and potentially injuring himself or you.
