Creating a puppy toilet area....

Hi all....I have a toilet area question.....

Ozzy, the gorgeous little Frenchie, is 4 months old now and we are making great progress with the toileting, with the odd mishap! He is now going outside for his wees, but litterally only JUST outside, i.e. hops out of the french doors and wees within about 2 inches of the house. Same spot every time. So now its summer and my beautiful oak vaneer sliding doors get opened up and fill the house with the smell of puppy wee!!!

Our garden isn't very interesting for him unfortunately - its mostly old paving. The whole thing will be revamped eventually (its a refurb project)

So I would like to create a puppy toilet area which will hopefully encourage him away from the doors. What is the most attractive surface for dogs to toilet on?

Hmmm, something that will hold his smell. Nothing dirty as he probably wont want to go on it then and not something that will splash on him, if he's a boy he'll eventually want to cock anyway! So I would just train him on a rag.

With my puppy I left a rag where he weed and then move it bit by bit to where I wanted him to wee, that way the pee reminded him of well, peeing and he gradually knew where to pee

Have I said pee enough in that last paragraph?

You could pen off an area and when releasing him to the toilet for a few weeks take him to the area instead of jsut letting him out of the door to go where he wants, leave a few delicious treats jsut inside the pen for him to asscoiate a positive with going there and as suggested a rag with previously scented urine or a pee post (yes you can buy then, jsut google) this has a scented pheromone to encourage them to slash on or near them, or puppy pads in the corner of the area (jsut for a while) with puppy spary to spray them (again u get the pheromone) and u should be able to rid of all the aids and have him go there himself, give hima command on the way to the designated area too "wee wee's" and treat him on the way out.

I have seen indoor dogs trained to use a sort of giant litter tray,filled with newspapers,or suppose those puppy wee pads would be encouraging
