NB. i've been having a nose at all the 'pro's sites, so know the sort of lay-out i'd like, but haven't got the first clue about how to make one.

Have a look at the Microsoft Office small business websites. It's what I use because it's free and pretty simple! Clever folk make them look pretty good, (not me!) and you can pay for more complicated things later on...
Here's one my computer-phobe 30-something brother is learning on at the moment, so you can see what they're like before they're finished! www.luxurywelshcottage.co.uk

I found with a lot of the free ones, the advertising/pop-ups got to be a pain, especially for people on slow computers, and one got hacked a lot?! The only advertising on these is the button to take to you their "get your own website" page.

Ohh, that looks pretty professional!!

Someone off here, who's site i was nosing around, was using something called Weebly.. i've had a fiddle with that, and am able to add pictures, but keep getting stuck if i want to add more text, or change any text i've put on already.

I've never heard of Weebly!

Here's another from the same stable as my brother's. You can tell they are a bit more "with it" on the web front. I'm sure they won't mind me posting it on here... (Hi Clare if you come on HHO!)

haha, it was yours i accidently clicked on

was having a nose around, and then saw 'free website' at the bottom of the page...
However, how can it be free if you have to pay £8 for it??
(not that £8 is a huge amount, but it's not free

Sorry to hijack your post MDS, but does anybody know if, when you make a website using a microsoft office programme, do you have to pay to host it?

The subdomain http://lkequestrian.weebly.com is free, but if you want your own address, like www.lkequestrian.com or www.horseandhound.co.uk etc then you have to pay to have it hosted. Tbh 8 is the cheapest you will find realistically! A lot show up as a fiver or less but that's per month!
