Hi! Daughter is entering a Dressage to music comp on Sunday and it is Christmas themed. Thinking of putting anters on the pony (have got some already) and he has a red fleece rug which I planned to stitch a silver tinsel trim on. I also thought about tacking some other decoration type things onto the rug (he will have his saddle on over it) I really want to make some sort of leg wraps for him, any ideas??? Want him to be a sort of pony reindeer!

Also have no idea how to make a costume for daughter to wear. She is 9, thought some sort of elf or santa type get up? Can anyone inspire me? Thank you Mince pies and mulled wine all round! x

If you've some plain brushing boots, I'd just tack some tinsel on to them. Wouldn't over do it with decorating the rug, but I'd kit your daughter out as Santa complete with white beard etc, and make 2 sacks of 'presents' - postal sacks with bits of polystyrene packaging in to look like presents, attach a wide ribbon to join them and anchor to the back of the saddle so hangs with one each side of pony behind the saddle, I'd write or sew on 'Santa's Presents' or 'Santa's Sack' on a bit of fabric and stich them to the sacks, just to make it obvious to all and sundry. Then if pony is a grey or has white face markings it'll show up enough, I'd get some red lipstick, warm it a little over the radiator so it's sticky enough to use but not warm to touch, and dab on the nose. If it's a bay/dark pony, I'd make a large red felt circle and stitch it on the noseband. I'd double check pony beforehand is saint like enough to carry that lot about - being polystyrene they'll be light as feathers and not bash him about.

Sounds as if you have pony sorted! My daughter made an elf costume using red felt to make a tunic, with red long sleeve polo top underneather, then an elf's hat again in felt. Finished off with black belt with buckle - whole costume was really quick to make and not much stitching! Elf would look good with a sack and some presents.

Have fun!
