How are your yards faring in this recession? We have usually been at least 3/4 full but now are less than 1/2 full. I thought we would probably pick up a few liveries as we are DIY and people perhaps would not be able to afford full now. Are advertising in all the right places but not even phone calls!

My yard is fuller than ever - YO is moving to a bigger premises (hopefully next week) and already people are reserving spaces. It ain't a cheap yard either - but is assisted DIY, so maybe people are moving away from part/full livery.

We actually have an empty stable for the first time ever - and there is no waiting list either at the moment. A couple of liveries gave up their stables this winter and put their horses on grass livery because of money. YO is v understanding and is keeping all the charges the same this year.

i know lots of yards that are not full, i feel for the people that bought these yards/farms at the high prices and are trying to keep going just to pay the morgage

A lot of people have opened yards over the past few years because the horse population grew. I think some of our problem is we are a bit in the sticks which is good for riding out as its quiet, also I suppose you have a finite catchment area when you are DIY as people have to make time to come up once or twice a day and if you are working its difficult. Hope things pick up soon or owner will go bankrupt!

Yes the crunch is biting had a lovely lady due to come but the night before she was due to move she got told she lost her job.
Another livery , with two horses has lost her job , so yes its pretty tough going and the enquiries are thin on the ground.
i've had to lay off a member of staff.
