Just wondered if it is hitting anyone else hard?
Some of my friends are scraping by - others not even seeming to notice whats going on and spending as much as always.

I havnt got to sell a horse as such - i have one for sale which would help but im not desperate to sell - i have however just put my nearly new Devoucoux saddle on ebay as it is a luxury i cant justify having

Money? Whats that?!

Its not affecting me too bad, but i could certainly do with some more money and am wondering what i could sell to make some money or how i could save some more money!
Also am considering postponing christmas a month or two until i can afford presents!

As yet it isnt, except in good way. we've just had a weekend away and it was a "good deal" due to the CC. OH had plent of overtime at work too. I've bought some x,mas pressies at half price too.
But, if OH job goes then it will hit in a big way. although things seem ok at present if we go into a dpression/recession anyone could be made redundant .

Its not really..... although I have noticed feeds/bedding prices creeping upwards.....I am a bit of a b***** for just buying stuff i dont really need, so I have tried to be good and not buy 'stuff' for the sake of it....just in case it all goes t*** up!!

Im always skint so i guess i havnt noticed much difference. Me and OH have very secure jobs thankfully but if one of us did lose our jobs we couldnt survive a month

I am starting to get sick of being so porr and after having a crap year with the new horse im tempted to just sell up. i know i prob wont mind you but this is the first time ive felt this way

Disaster for me! I am being made redundant as of Dec 1st. I know of several people that like me were in secure jobs - but guess what? All businesses are starting to feel effects.

Not financially but am worried about the security of my job. My oh's work is laying off a lot of people right now and no pay rises, in fact next year they expect to just about break even.

I think apart from those poor people that have been made redundant or those that are self employed, most people arent really being hit too hard at the moment. I am still working, still taking home the same monthly salary, granted bedding/feed has gone up slightly, but fuel has now come down in price, the sales are on for xmas shopping. Think the press has panicked people - yes there is a recession hitting, but at the moment, personally, things arent too bad. I am no worse off than I was 6 or 12 months ago.

Its affecting our food shop, have just had to reduce hours off of each employee, some not happy as they have to do the minimum hours to recieve tax credit, but its either that or we have no business or no work for them either.

Im always skint so not really that much different for me at the mo.

We have been given a 5% pay rise at work which is the most we have ever had - shocking seeing that people are loosing jobs and the money problems around at the moment.

The credit crunch has been very beneficial to me. I have far more liveries, sold out of my selling hay weeks ago and somehow have managed to sell a number of horses in the past month or so even though I am not advertising them on any advertising sites. I've had a few outside horses here for training and people have asked to buy a lot of tack I've had hanging around for years.

The credit crunch hasn't hit my business at all, at least not in a negative way.

Oh Loz - glad to hear that you have been given a payrise - we should find out if we are getting one this week, normally is is effective from 1 December, but no one is quite sure if we will be getting anything this year!

It's not really affecting me as such - but the cost of mares vets bills (which are sat on my c/c until my insurance co decide to pay me back or not) and the cost of keeping her on box rest is making a dent!! Wouldnt be so bad if i didnt have the monthly repayments on the c/c on £6k...that said i've had a 7% payrise which is good so looking forward to my first increased pay at the end of Jan!!

But we are really noticing the difference in the cost of everything, noticing a lot less spare cash each month!

Im constantly scrimping and saving so Im not noticing too much, although I have changed my bedding from shavings to cushion bed with a bale of shavings every so often when I feel like splashing out!
We will cope, we nearly went bancrupt during the 2001 F&M , so this will be a doddle!! x

Prices are creeping up and I have not started my new job yet so not earning at the moment, but it isn't really affecting us at the moment to be honest.

We always used to have spare cash, and have less of that now, but apart from that, we still pay our bills and still eat and still have a house.

It is affecting us. Had far less interest in the foals than in previous years, even though they are a cracking bunch. Also got a horse in to back and school, for a friend who is on the market, and she has had virtually no interest in him, yet he seems the ideal sort to sell.

Well I've just found out that I have to take a pay cut and they tried to cut me by £5k which I just cannot afford, so they are doing it by £2.5k. I'm re-jigging a lot of things, but there is bad blood where I am as all the employees are suffering, and all the partners can moan about is the fact that they won't get a company car next year. They are barely reducing their drawings at all and it makes me pig sick that I am effectively taking a cut to fund their tax bill because they b@llsed it up.

Mine are all going on grass livery and I have the option of a barn stable if I need it for medical emergencies etc which will bring it all down and I'm cutting down my expenditure too, so all money goes on my neds. If it weren't for my brill OH I would be in a lot of bother.

Sorry for the rant

Really think about what I spend now and have finally decided to try and pay off credit cards, so I am making my own 'crunch' by only using my bank account. Its hard and the kids dont like it.
Might notice a bigger difference next year had a letter from BE this morning, looking at the price rises I cant see how we can run so many horses next year, so looks like a boring summer ahead.

i have volunteered to cut my hours by 5hrs a week for now and seeing how we go - im at a family firm and now my Dad wouldnt ask me to, but 3 people have been made redundant and as i have no kids its just me the dog &pony i thought it only right i make some sort of sacrifice - aside from that its not affected me at all.

The company I work for is a bit quieter so I'm not spending unless necessary because next year is likely to be a 'bumpy ride' for everyone I think. I just feel for everyone who's already lost their job, at least I've still got one

Luckily where I work I won't get made redundant and my mortgage has dropped by over £100 a month, I've also had a payrise. If I do end up with a cripple horse again, she's on her last chance, I should be in a good postition to buy a horse as prices have dropped.

Its affected me in terms of buying first house. Banks are not wanting to lend money so harder to get a mortgage.
I know my family are struggling a bit, 3 houses, 2 with large mortgages and value of property falling - not good!
OH had A LOT of shares in a very well known investment bank, valued at 93pence per share this time last year, now worth 9p per share... again not good!
Still we'll go in to recession but it will pick up eventually and this needed to happen to balance out the economy again (trying to be positive!)

It is affecting our house, both me and hubby work, him full time me part time, I cannot up my hours as there is not enough work...and he works all the overtime he can, We are supporting our daughter through uni, so thats really crippling us, but we feel we have to give her a good start in life and this is our way of doing it, We are really noticing there is not really any cash left in the bank after the bills have been payed, its a good job we dont smoke as we couldnt afford too, we have even cut the supermarket shopping down to once a fortnight as we cannot afford to go every week, Its a glum time really, :-( could do with a lottery win !!

On a day to day basis, right now we are better off. Our mortgage has gone down an absolute whack, so much so that we have just arranged to make overpayments
shocked.gif
. On top of that I have just been told I am getting a payrise so who knows, one day I might even pay my overdraft off
blush.gif
. We are being a bit more cautious with the heating etc though, and I've stopped compulsive rug shopping for my horses (I think 7 each is enough
tongue.gif
)

That said - young horse has just started having shoes on all 4 feet, so ouch. Other horse now in heart bar shoes so more ouch. And both me and OH work for banks
frown.gif
. Whilst I think my job is fairly safe, his is less so, so we haven't made any holiday plans or anything for months. We were going to be replacing some windows in the house but have decided not too, as that would take up our entire savings, and we need to make sure we have a mortgage buffer.
