thats good to hear MH....

Maybe it has something to do with "priceing for the market"??

I seem to be getting more requests for insuring horses people have bought for higher values (soo many well over the £10K mark) - what's that all about? I think I should find out who these peple bank with! hehe

I'm definitely seeing signs of it, people are buying the essentials for their animals ie feed and bedding, but making do when it comes to rugs, dog beds, clothes for themselves etc.

They're also saying that they aren't going to as many shows as normal, picking the important ones rather than one every weekend.

I'm not so sure the credit crunch actually exists. I think we are in a slightly more economically challenging time but I think the credit crunch thing is being hawked round by the media to cause panic.

Actually it's a bit worrying. The actual level of borrowing hasn't got any less. It's what people are borrowing FOR that has changed and it a bit concerning. People are borrowing now to pay for essentials (food, bills and mortgage) and not any more for cars and holidays.

I think it's those that are on a lower wage that will struggle and those that are homeowners. But I think above all, it's going to get worse before it gets better

Ah all good doers then that are cheap to keep and can live out!

Its not good around here. I dread to think what is going to happen to the horses that cannot get in at charities. I feel awful when i say no, but we have to look after them. They don't hover in the sky and not need feeding, vets bills, worming farrier etc
Some people are paying stupid livery bills which i know could be reduced to a third. They don't like advice like that though.
Good for you by the way JM07. I am realy pleased you are finding good homes and can now work with some more.

Believe me, the credit crunch is happening....I work in credit

However, well priced horses are selling well.....we've just sold a 16.2hh Sjer/allrounder for 5k, sold in an hour.....

It exists, it's just most people don't actually have a clue what it means. I work in the credit market so have been seeing a 'crunch' for longer than the papers have been bleating on about it.....

I know the building industry is suffering which is spreading out across the board ie Estate Agents etc. I feel sorry for anyone who has bought their house in the last 2yrs on 100% as they may struggle if they have to re-sell. This time round fuel prices are hitting everyone.

Nearly bought a horse the other day... absolutely perfect for me, would have been my 'horse of a lifetime' in everyway.

Then I went home and did the maths and realised that I just could not afford it anymore - I had the capitol but the cost of running a horse is getting astronomical. Plus the cost of living has gone up 33% in the last 6 months apparently and isn't going to stop. Horse was a very smart warmblood type and would need stabling in winter etc... a good doer who can live out 24/7 would be possible but not something like her.

Was gutted. But would rather not have a horse and live within my means. A year ago people like me were thinking "oh I'll cope for a few months until I get a bit more money". These days you just have to assume things are going to get harder not easier so taking on finacial responsibilities has become a major issue to consider.
