I feel so rubbish. I've always thought if a horse doesn't "need" knee boots then not to bother (i.e. over big wall country). Anyway it was our biggest wall day on Saturday, Badger was fab and I didn't think he had touched anything but come Sunday he had a big knee. :( :( He was ridden on Tuesday (he's sound) and today his whole leg has filled. :(

He has a very small cut - do you think it's more likely to be some kind of infection or that he did too much exercise too soon? He's off to the vets in the morning.

Anyway - I was wrong and will be booting up in future!! But that will be next season now. :(

Thanks for your reply! :)

I think it's probably just a knock, although my mum seems to think that it wouldn't blow up so much from a steady ride?? I would imagine if it was anything serious then he would be lame though?

Aww poor Badger. Hopefully just a minor knock but best to get vet to check since it's over his joint. Is there any pus or fluid coming out?

My mum's TB swells up at the most minor scratch, some are just like that :D

No I don't think so, we were in pretty nice fields all day and all good ground. I'm a bit confused because I didn't think he had touched any walls. We had a very close call with a pylon (jumping something I shouldn't have been and thought I was going to die for a sec!) It was one of those little wooden ones with the wires going horizontally to the ground? I think he might have bashed his knee on the wire. I was too busy being glad we hadn't fell to notice really! :smirk:

Even if small cut, with swelling on knees get quick antibiotic jab into it. Its hard place to heal if it does turn to infection, only takes a tiny hole.

May have just knocked it but I never take chances with knees, damn things!

Hose it regularly to get the swelling down, I didn't on my chap and he's now got a permanently big knee.... doesn't cause him any problems but it just looks pants!! :(
Might be worth bandaging too to keep the swelling down too!!

He did it in the stable overnight... the plonker!! :D
