Following on from the Cristmas-cracker post.

We should all post pictures of us or someone we know
riding a young or in experienced horse.

When my boy was 3 years old, in the summer we backed him slowly, hacking, light schooling.
Took him out a couple of times with my older horse and did a few walk trot tests.
Just to experience shows, traveling etc.

He had a few months off over winter then was brought back into work.
He is now a fab horse!

What do you think?!!!!

V.v nice bc... glad you got a gud'n there! Almost 'Piaffing' arent we ;)

Here is mine... Bought her from Ascot sales as a virtually unbroken but stupidly fit 4 yo in November. I took her hunting in December and didnt have such a nice one for a while... go figure!!

However to get to this point I have used 175 different bits/training aids, lots of whipping and fed her purely on grated extra mature cheddar! She will jump crates, barrels, labradors and bacon sandwiches from canter and gallop!

3 years 10 months
Hacking

4 years 2 months
Jumping (excuse pants quality its from a video, also excuse pants arm and leg position :p) Dont actually jump much, working on the flat work (we can now walk straight without falling out through the shoulder... lol) and then we`ll master jumping. Do jump the odd log out hacking.

41/2, having been backed and ridden on for 6 months. He tried every trick in the book and I am impressed by my daughter who stuck with him and rode him through every tantrum calmly.

18 months later, champion Worker at his first attempt, the ride judge complimented daughter on having such a well schooled young horse.

from the same day as my vid, I found them on FB so not goo quality though

I have lots of ones from later but I think in the spirit of the thread I will only post up the very early ones as they are most like the ones in the original thread in terms of a 'moment in time'

Once he was going better it became much easier to sit tidily on him!

She was 14 at the time, I think she has a seriously sticky backside, I am very proud of her, she has done all the work, last year he was placed twice at BE and is now in the ribbons at BSJA, all credit to her. Unfortunately he is probably up for sale as she is rather outgrowing him.

Bless him, he is wearing his in hand bridle and treeless saddle as this is what we started out with. He got a nice saddle and bridle when he was 4 1/2 as we started doing affiliated showing.

Rising 5, reserve coloured champ at Herts County

He was backed early at 2 3/4s but we have done everything very slowly.

Vardi and my only picture of his original (bloody awful backing) he was 3 in this pic. Taken before I bought him!

Having realized that unless you clung onto his face and held him in a frame he practically fell over I turned him away for 8 months then had him re-backed aged 4.5 years, actually not ashamed to show you this one. Very first time back on and far more relaxed.

Lily, bought as a 4 year old well, rising 5. She came over from Ireland and had been hunted but not really schooled. Broken and ridden in a standing martingale she still needs work to stretch forward and is still a little unbalanced but we are getting there :)
