Well, we took both the boys to Crockstead today for the BSJA Amateur qualifiers.
The sun was bright and it felt like a warm spring day..............but OMG the lake in the middle of the warm-up gets bigger everytime we go there
So, onto business...
Trike jumped the 90cms Am Qualifier, and being the superstar he is, he jumped a fab clear in the first round
There were 9 to jump off against the clock and the course was built very twisty....which doesn't really suit him at the moment....but we gave it a shot, and just got a little deep into one oxer off a corner for 4 faults. They only paid 4 places, but we were surprised and pleased to find out that we'd still qualified by coming 6th so that was a result
Next up came the 1m Am qualifier, and it was Bo's turn. He was being a complete tart in the warm-up and in the collecting ring, but he really turned on the style to jump a brilliant clear and put is in the JO again. We were 6th to go of 8 and with pretty much everyone before having gone clear, i decided i had nothing to lose by moving him forwards a little. Anyway, he had a bit of a strop turning from 1 to 2 ad so incurred 4 faults for a resistance and then just tipped a back rail too where he was getting too excitied and going up but not forward
So, 8 faults and 7th place....just missing qualification by that rather annoying resistance
The 1.10m Am Qualifier started to get a bit tougher. The oxers were much more square and by the time we went in to jump at 9 or 10, there were no clears and a few cricket scores
Bo again turned on the style, and jumped one of the best rounds he ever has with me on his back to turn in a super clear
One more clear followed and i had agreed with them that if things stayed that way, we would split 1st place (she was on a Grade A and had plans for the 1.20m Qualifier that was to follow !).....but the last to go then threw a spanner in the works by jumping clear too so we had to go again. I was drawn 1st, and went in while they were adjusting the course for a little looksee.....and wished i hadn't lol! The course wa significantly bigger and the last fence involved a gallop to a full up set of planks at 1.20m
Soooo.....we set off and because of the layout of the course i pretty much had to make most of the turns and keep him rolling forwards. He absolutely flew everything and came back clear in a pretty respectable time too
The next in was the girl on the Grade A and she had 8 or 12 faults i think which just left the last who had a very good round and just pipped our time by 1 sec.....soooooo we came 2nd
Bo was a star today and really lifted both our confidence levels significantly, and Trike was great too.....I've got a fab little team coming together for the summer now.....bring it on
