Vicky (YO) had a very good day, she took 3 event horses, she came 1st and 3rd in the British Novice and then took all 3 horses into the Discovery and all 3 of them jumped clear! They were the only 3 clears in the whole class so they all came equal 1st

Not a bad day

I don't understand why Crockstead seem to have so very few clear rounds in their classes. Courses seem to be very straightforward and not at all tricky yet it seems to be quite normal for there to be about only 3 clears (in the first round) in a class of 20 or so.

I was going to go there but toddled off to Norton Heath instead.

Were there many there?

Nah....we didn't go

The clears are always sparse there though....well done to your YO !

Out of interest...if you share 1st place without JO'ing, do you get given a DC ?

Yes you do get given a double clear automatically.

i think the reason there are so few clears is because (well if its still as i remember!!) very very light and thin poles than fall very easily and very very narrow jumps (only 10foot wide or something) and are easier to run out at, and there are usually very few fillers making the course very airy. Thats how i remember it from last time and thats why when ive been there people havent gone clear

It is very poley as they have very few fillers there but I'd never particularly noticed the poles being light and thin - I'll have a closer look next time I go!

I haven't seen lots of run outs but loads of people have fence(s) there.

In fact I've never been anywhere that has so few clears in the first round. I did an amateur class there earlier in the year and there was only one clear in the first round - and that was the girl that rides for them on one of their horses!

They do build 'continental style' at Crockstead....not surprising really as they ae Swedish

I agree they don't use many fillers, but I don't think the fences are any narrower than usual

The arena does seem to ride very spooky though...even my very experienced horse has a look when he goes in...and thinking about it, for a very careful horse has had more poles there than anywhere else

I wonder if the stables at the end of the arena backing on have something to do with it !?

i spoke to a course builder when he was building there and he said he doesnt really enjoy building there anymore because they cut down all their poles/or got new ones which are 2feet shorter than all the fillers which is why there are no fillers because they havent bothered to cut them down to fit the newly extra short poles

Cool! What did he think?

Would I have seen him, I saw a man last week on a black horse, having a lesson?

Haha...My OH is a woman.....and Vicky came to us to run a clinic

Does Vicky go over to your place sometimes and teach?

[/ QUOTE ] She does, we have a couple of would-be eventers who have lessons with her. She was at ours yesterday.
