As title. Going out for the first time with Harvey in the trailer. It is a double trailer, but am taking the partition out as he is such a big boy. Have been advised to cross tye. But wondered what others do with haynet? Also, I have rubber matting. I have no straw, but do have some shavings. Should I put shavings down, or just leave rubber matting bare? Many thanks and sorry for numpty questions!

We tie our haynet at the very front on the trailer by the little window, we have an Ifor Williams, and it has some little metal loops, which are perfect for tying a haynet too! Sorry, might not help! As for shavings, it's personal preference I think, we never used to put them down, but have started since our boy stopped travelling well, not really sure why though :D

I travel my horse like this & usually the haynet is out of reach on the outward journey, but these trips are always less than 1 hr & horse will be working on arrival. On the way back I tie the net to the tie ring (same as one of the ropes is on) but he can reach this even though cross tied. Infact in an Ifor W its more or less hanging in front of his nose. In my experience they rarely eat much while traveling anyway.

I have rubber matting but put a sprinkle of shavings in to stop the rear area becoming too slippy when they poo. Hope that helps.

I put my net in the same place as F_F and travel on bare rubber ..... never dawned on me to put anything down.

My cross ties are short enough that she can't move around too much but she can still reach her net.

I don't travel my girl with a net hanging. She will travel outwards without as she will be working when she gets there. Once we have worked and then just hanging around I will give her the net, and take it away before we travel home.

I have not yet put bedding down on the floor - but I do always pick up any poos etc asap to keep the mats as dry as possible.

I Cross tie my girl in an old Rice trailer- and she eats like no tomorrow given the chance!
I observed which way she liked travelling (head to right, bum and most body to left - and hang the net on the right ring.

With a Rice trailer the front is too far away to hang the net - she would constantly have to strech forwards and possibly loose balance (Trust me, for food she would quite happily crawl under the front bar! ;)

And deffo shavings, slippy when wet otherwise, and i find it encourages them in if it smells of home.
