Do people still do this...

I havent got any partitions in my lorry yet and a good friend suggested that theres no real need for them as i can cross tie.

My horse is a good traveller also.

Thoughts?

If you are travelling your horse alone then let him travel loose. If you are travelling with another horse then you need a partition as it is illegal to travel two horses together unless it is a mare and foal or wild ponies.

No it's only a single horse.
There is a breast bar.. I did a small jaunt today with him tied up and he basically positioned himself herringbone on his own.
- this was normal tying not cross tying.

I cross tie when travelling my horse in trailer without partition .. with full width breast and breach bars.. basically to ensure she doesn't turn around.

So would it be ok to just tie him up normally and travel him without cross tying? There is a full width breast bar and it's a 3.5t.. He can't go far lol!

I cross tie in a trailer with full width breast bar to stop them turning round. I don't understand where the breast bar goes in a lorry? Do you mean as a partition?

I travel my mare in a double trailer with no partition and a full breast bar. Single tied she arranges herself herringbone and goes to sleep. Cross tied she tap dances and kicks as she finds it hard to balance herself

I travel mine cross-tied in a 3.5t without the partition, but he's been tied quite loosely, so I'm not sure there's a point...am thinking of just single-tying in the future.

I think some horses travel better with the partition in. I tried my pony in a 3.5t without a partition (on her own!) because I thought the extra space would be nicer for her and she would arrange herself herringbone which is supposedly more comfortable, I've heard. Normally, she's a great traveller. On this trip, she got off more tired than usual and spent her time shifting from side to side especially on roundabouts as she had nothing to brace on. Turned out she likes to be boxed in and lean on the partitions. Might be your horse loves it but it does really seem to depend on the individual, as with all things horsey.

When I had a 7.5t lorry I travelled him loose without a partition.

Now I have a single trailer, I X-tie with a pair of elasticated side reins.
