After many test, my horse has been diagnosed as having damaged his cruciate ligament.
Anyone ha dthis happen to theirs and what chance of a full recovery?
Currently on 2 months box rest with walks in hand, followed by 2 -4 months in the field.

Hi. My pony was diagnosed with this injury in october last year. She is 24 (acts 5!) years old and was in light work. She managed to do it in the field!

She didn't respond to medication after 6 weeks box rest so she was aloud to have play pen turn out with controlled exercise.
At the moment she lives out 24/7 because i don't have the facilities to ride in the winter.

My vet said that i can ride her lightly to build up her fitness and see how we get on with reguards to doing a bit of canter work. I just have to be aware that her joint could become unstable at anytime.
She is just on a bute a day at the moment with a joint supplement.

I know that she will never become sound and that at her age she is starting to fall apart! (Has managed to strain a extensor tendon as well!) but as long as she is happy just hacking about we will carry on just having a bit of fun!

I don't know how badly damage your chaps ligament is, but when i posted about this when my pony first done hers i did get a few hopeful storys. Hope it works out for you. pm me if you like.

My lad did his cruciate ligament and colateral ligament and possible meniscal damage in dec 2005 possible whilst jumping. The outlook from the vet went from gloomy to grim. He had 12 months off with regular 3 monthly scans and xrays. The vet said to retire him as prognosis became poor for return to work after a year.
During the 'retirement' he became very stiiff in his hocks (hes 16) so started taking him for walks in hand to the beach!!!
Well, the old b****r came sound after eighteen months laid off. He is on jointsuppplements and is being hacked and allowed to do as much as he is comfortable with.
