Has anyones dog ever had this and did they recover? One of our german shepards has just been diagnosed with one and is going in for an op on monday. Just wondered if he will ever fully recover and what will happen in the process?

Yes been there. Just two weeks after taking out a free accident and public liability policy on my bitch, she jumped up on a water large container where I had put her ball whilst I was clipping. She caught her leg in in the metal frame and unbeknown to me at the time ruptured a similar ligament in her hock. I took her straight to the vet knowing something was very wrong.

Over £1,000 later and a suggestion from my new insurers that the injury was a old one and I had kept it secret!!!!!!!!!! Bast**ds. Vet told them!

I had to take her to a specialist vet 100 mile round trip! She recovered so that I did not notice and neither did she. They fused some of her hock bones because of the loss of the ligament and she was in a cast for a while, then I took her swimming at the local dog therapy pool to build up the muscles and she loved that. She would run into the pool centre pick up her fav squeaky and dive straight in the pool headfirst! That really helped her recovery and they swam her against the current.

She was really active and came out for good fast day rides a year or so after the op with her best mate Peggy, they went for hours, slept in the car on the way home then started playing when we got back!
