Stella's best bud, Crow, has been on cage rest for the past six weeks, and the vet has just confirmed that she will need an op on her leg.

Has anyone's dog experienced this injury? What was recovery like, post surgery? Has anyone ever tried hydrotherapy with their dog?

Crow is an 18-month-old Basset/JRT (best guess). She weighs 32lbs.

I've had 2 dogs with crutiate ligaments go (both staffies). 1st one seemed quite a speedy recovery but I don't think the op was as invasive as 2nd dog. 2nd dog went in in November for his op and it seemed to take forever to heal. He still stands with weight over to the opposite side but I'm not sure if it's just in his head that it hurts. He runs about like mad now and it doesn't seem to bother him, just when he stands.

I took 2nd dog swimming because he also has ED, we went for about 6 weeks but he didn't seem to like it & spent most of the time trying to get out but most of the dogs that were there couldn't wait to get in the pool - there was even a woman there with a cat

Sorry to hear you went through it twice. I'm not sure if the vet has determined whether Crow's complaint is down to injury or whether it's something genetic and involves both legs. Either way she is so fed up; there are only so many kongs you can give a dog used to running about on a farm and swimming in lakes every day.
