Was with the girly just now, did her feet and as I was picking them out, I noticed the sole of her foot crumbling away with the mud,...like chalk. She didn't seem in pain, and isn't lame. Any ideas of what this could be, and how to stop it?

All help/opinions very appriciated! :)

It is probably just sole exfoliating if it's chalky and easily scraped away with the hoof pick. It's a bit like skin shedding but it hasn't been able to and builds up. :)

Hi My pony had a strike of laminitis in Feb which with the help of vet and farrier we got her through, one thing that happened straight after was that when cleaning her feet the crumblyness and chalky scrapes on her soles caused me to ring for the farrierto come straight out. He said it was because she had slightly soft soles, she had been at full rest for the lami and the fields were wet. He advised using keratin hoof hardner and within 3 days her soles were like rock again and even though its like a lake out there now she dosn't seem to be going chalky again. Thougt this may help you.

Thank you...less worried now :) farrier is out in a couple of week anyways, so unless it gets loads worse, I'll wait and see what he says. Thanks again!
