suddenly realised on thur i only have 9 points left in elem, so if i wanted to do the ROR champs again i really needed to get my ass in gear!

hence today we tootle off to do E53 and E59 which as well as getting us the qual, was a nice easy peasy outing for him to just motor round without any pressure.

warmed up super forward, loving the muggy sticky indoor (weirdo!) and went in to E53 still really sharp and pinged round neatly......bit confused by the lack of changes, but very relaxed and soft.

mainly walked before E59 as he felt a bit tired by then, so just picked him up with 5 mins to go and did some simple changes and mediums.

another really clean test, by now REALLY looking for the changes lol, but did manage to restrain himself from chucking one in! trot not quite so expressive due to tiredness but he tried hard to stay uphill and off my leg.

only 2 of us in them but he won both by a fair whack, 69.11% in E53 (second on 61) and 66.8% in E59 (second on 60) and the judge is quite a firm sort so jobs a good 'un and we are off to ROR again in Nov by the skin of our teeth.

he is now well and truly out of elem, and next stop is kingswood AM AF on fri :)

PS here but on NMT's laptop.....yes the ROR final was buzzy. The music was quite loud and there was plenty going on generally as the high profile show got lots of entries for all classes. The music was audible from the warm up and it did put CS on edge initially.

Thanks re CS, i think the re leve is agreeing with him, he certainly seems more consistent on it :)

He's looking amazing! Really come on from when you posted that thread asking for opinions. He looks so much stronger and more impressive in his stature too.

Really like your jacket too. Reminds me of the Aussie equestrians jackets which I really like too.

Well done

Hmm am I the only one who thinks it's a bit unfair to drop a horse who is consistantly competeing at Advanced Medium down two levels to Elementary just because you can?

Fair enough if you had some problems that you needed to work on, but it does smack a bit of pothunting in my opinion, sorry!

the horse is an ex racer, with points still in elem at the time he did the test, he is therefor eligible to do 2 elems and get his qual for the champs ( and i DID clarify with BD, prior to competing, that he does not have to still be eligible at close of entries, but no, it doesnt matter if he upgrades prior to the champs).

he's a quirky horse too, its done him no harm to bat round a couple of elems with his brain switched off.

ive done nothing against the rules and with the new qual procedure, ive also not stopped anyone else qual for anything else because you dont have to win to qual for regionals any more.

I wasn't accusing you of breaking any rules don't panic! It's just not something I would feel comfortable doing myself.
I still feel its wrong that you get advanced horses competing in the Novice open regionals just because they are still in novice points. Valegro is still eligable for elementary but I don't think anyone would agree that it would be ethical for him to do so.

I think its something BD need to address, but personally I want to be bettering myself and my horse, not dropping down to just because I can.

PS I feel for you - you cannot win - last time you posted you had heaps of us (including me!) saying you should maybe consider dropping him back to a level he's comfortable with and nailing some qualifications with really decent scores (which you've done), and that results in someone saying doing that is like pothunting. *head-wall* :D

Well done, nice to nail qualifications, and he looks great. I am especially jealous of your quarter marks since I am rubbish at them ;)

I think all this shows that the old adage that to be seriously competitive you need to be working well a couple of levels above that at which you're competing, is true. ;)

The ROR finals only go to elem! so in the last year the horse can compete in them (as is now out of elem points), why on earth shouldnt i have a go at it?

The way the regional dates fall horses are often working at a much higher level than the regional they compete in and TBH when people complain about stuff like this, it smacks of bitterness. If you want to win work harder to get better so that you too are schooling at a higher level? its simple. Hard work, but simple.

Valegro is not eligible for elem as he has competed at inter 1.

there is no way anyone can accuse me of not wanting to better myself, and if you have actually read any previous reports you will know i NEVER hold a horse down a level in order to qual if im already ready to move up. In this case ive done this one show at elem whilst the horse was still in points, and will back at adv med on fri, so hardly dropping down to pothunt.

ETA-SC thanks :) can i borrow your wall to apply my head to?!

I'll provide an extra brick wall if you like.
I think a couple of confidence building elem tests were JUST what he needed, well done!

He's Gorgeous PS. A real credit to you.

Just because a horse is competing at a level well, doesn't mean he couldn't do with a bit of a break down a couple of levels just to gather his thoughts, if you like. As PS said, he was looking for changes through both tests - making him do a test in a competition environment where he wasn't allowed to change was a lesson in itself.

That's not pot hunting to me, that's letting him have his last chance at RoR Elem before he's out of it.
