I dont even know where to start; here goes,

Was chating to a girl last night I havnt met in years and we were talking about our dogs,

We went to an animal welfare rescue centre to get a dog but none were suitable, next stop was a visit to the pound but before that we found and rescued our pup maggie so we never made it to the pound in the end.

Friend was telling me they went to pound(CSPCA-Cork soc for prev cruelty to animals)

Found their perfect dog took it home there and then, no home checks dog not nuetered(1 1/2 yo collie cross)and all they had to do was sign a piece of paper stating from that moment any illness/injury had nothing to do with pound and the pound was not liable for any incidents involving dog.

Please Please tell me that this was a one off? do spca's really not care where the animals go?
I was just so shocked when i heard this, still trying to get my head around it.

Maybe im just being naive and this is how pounds work.
Can anyone educate me in the societys policy's?

I've had a quick look around at their homepage ( http://www.cspca.ie/ ) and I haven't found anything about them making home checks? They clearly state that they want more people to neuter/spay their dogs/bitches but (as far as I can find) it doesn't say if all the dogs they rehome have been neutered/spayed.

As I recall from previous threads on similar subjects, it is different, some rescues does home check and some doesn't. Some rescues neuter/spay and some doesn't (but maybe hopes that the new owners will do it?).

By the way, I like the fact that it sounds as if they don't keep dogs for let's say 2 years in their kennel (as there was a recent HHO thread about a dog that had been in a rescue for that long and since it came with a list of demands on a future owner, that made it likely it would never find a new, fitting home).
"We operate a policy of trying to re-home every dog that comes in. The only dogs that are put down are those that are aggressive, are suffering a painful, incurable disease or those that have been in the Home for such an extended period without anyone wanting to adopt them that it is no longer fair to keep them. "

i should have before mouthing off!

Might have been the few glass's of wine I had l night that got me so indignant about it, we have such a huge problem here with rescue dogs. putting unneutered dogs back out into the system seems ridiculous.

On a different note would u mind if i pm'd you about a swedish translation id love help with?

If it's a pound then yes they are handed out never to be seen again...u cannot return them either, so they end up god knows where if a probem occurs, they are not vaxed or neutered, a voucher will be given out(they are here) but it's not compulsary to neuter, and the dogs 9 times out of 10 develops parvo or kennel cough when they hit their new home.
