Cubbing- could you please explain for a newbie?

certainly!

cubbing, or autumn hunting, is the way the hunt introduce last years puppies to hunting. They are taken out at the times of day when the scent is best for the older hounds to show them what to do.

It's also the way that hunting people introduce horses to hunting. It tends to be pretty steady, with more standing about than ordinary hunting, so much less exciting.

your horse should be clean and tidy, but it's not usually necessary to plait (check with your YM about the particular hunt though). You should be in cream/beige jods, black boots (or short boots and gaiters - not chaps), with a shirt and tie and tweed hacking jacket, and appropriate hat silk.

speak to the hunt sec for times and places and if they are charging for autumn hunting.

go out and have fun, it's a great way tog et to know the hunt, the area, if your horse will hunt and to meet other horsey people! and don't forget to tell us how you get on!
