Hi, i have been talked into taking my 5Yr old TB mare cubbing very early on saturday morning - i mean at 630am sharp!
Mare is normally good across open fields and stuff although can get a bit excited at times. I will be going with a friend who has never been hunting before either.
We have been told to wear tweed, cream jods black boots and theres no need to plait :)
I have a few questions......
1) am i right in thinking that its all very steady so no flat out galloping across boggy fields?
2) will there be alot of young/inexperienced horses and children on ponies out?
3) will there be optional jumps?

Thanks :)

At this time of year most cubbing is fairly steady and will involve a lot of standing around. If there are loads of people out you may find yourself cantering at the back even when the front people are walking but is unlikely to be any flat our galloping. Jumping is also pretty unlikely but that does depend on the type of countryside you are in but there are usually gates available for those who would prefer to go round. There may well be others on young horse and potentially (again depending on the hunt) lots of children. I would suggest you put some green tape on your horses tail just to let others know that she is new to the job and might be unpredictable, that way people can give you more space in gateways etc.

Really hope you enjoy yourself, it is a great thing for young horses and once you are up it is a fab time of the morning to be out and about.

Thank you :)
Am really nervous about it all!! we have been to meets before just to give the horses the experience of standing about and she was a star (and only 4 at the time :) )
