Ages since I've been on here but... a question for all you post-ban hunters. My daughter will be hunting her new pony this season and in the olden days she would have taken him cubbing or whatever it may be referred to as now - Autumn hound excercise perhaps??? - as a gentle intro to the job but what now?
How can Autumn trail hunting differ from any other time of the season? Just wanted to know if there would be any difference.

Last season the "hound exercise" opperated like cubbing, getting both horse and rider fit enough for the more demanding day of open season. We still rose early morning, meaning lesser field than an open season day would carry, so it would still be a better introduction for pony into the field. Perhaps ring local hunt first just to check what country they will be over.

Yes it is unbelievable isn't it - but, amazingly, true?!!!!!!! That's what they shout when out cubbing. Yes, fully-grown adults shouting "Tally ho back!" - you couldn't make it up!
