Hello

I'm thinking of taking my horse cubbing, I have never been before but was advised this may be better than going hunting to see how we get on and how my horse reacts.

I know nothing about cubbing and wanted to go watch first, how do I find out where my nearest one is and what do they actually do that is different to hunting? Sorry for the numpty questions.

Look up your local hunt on the mfha website and then contact the secretary.
Alternatively you could post your location as someone will suggest a suitable hunt to approach :)

Hi - I've just been cubbing for the very first time and am still buzzing now!

Echo the above, find your local hunt and ring up the secretary and ask when the next meet is going to be. If you explain that you are new then I'm sure she will be helpful and may suggest someone to go with.

It is different to hunting as it is a much slower place. There is a lot of standing around. It is used to get the young hounds out learning and to build up the horses fitness.

You will probably find everyone really friendly, I know I did. Good luck.

I hunt with Badsworth/Bramham Moor our newcomer/1st timer days are fab usually around parkland with jumping/non jumping groups not too fast and with nannies out the back to mop up the stragglers or anyone struggling all topped off with a hog roast to finish excellent

Newcomers' Days do tend to vary from hunt to hunt, but generally they will pick an accessible meet that is easy to find. We generally meet a little later for a more sociable start to autumn hunting than is normal and usually finish up with food and kennels tour. There are buddies available to take newcomers round whether they are mounted or on bikes/foot and make sure they have the best day possible and can have questions answered.

Well Newcomers'week is being organised from the 10th-17th October and hunting is going to be free of charge at participating hunts:

http://www.countryside-alliance.org.uk/hunting-campaigns/hunting-events/try-hunting-for-free!/

If you can't make it, or your local hunt isn't organising an event then usually autumn hunting is between £15-25 for the morning.
