hello there, i'm from N.ireland, i own a 4yr old cult hero mare, my friend who we stable together also sold her 3yr old cult hero filly to england last year, and she has the full brother to my mare, he is 5yr old now, was just wondering if this breed is getting more popular/recognised, and if anyone ws or know's of any cult hero horses and what they think of them!

Hello fairdown! We went to look at some youngsters at the yard of a very well-known dealer in performance horses in S. Ireland last year - he had some fabulous stuff, and had very clear opinions about sires whose offspring he would go for, and those he would avoid.

He said that he would be very careful with any Cult Hero offspring, as in his opinion while they were almost always incredibly talented, they were also often very sharp and quite tricky. But he did say that Pippa Funnell really liked Cult Hero offspring, and was prepared to work them through challenging behaviour! So it sounds as though (generalising) they are more likely to be "professionals horses" than suitable for the average rider ..... How are yours temperament-wise?

hi there!! well my 4yr old mare is extremly sweet and has always been easy to do, from halter breaking to backing, since being broken she is seemingly terribly intelligent and picking things up very quickly, she is also the bravest horse i have ever had the pleasure of knowing, she has never looked at a tractor/lorry/motorbike-if she sees a pole or jump she just tries to take me to it!!amazing!!!

now her full brother on the other hand who is now 5, was a total different story, my friend owns him, and i done all the work with him, everything has been a struggle, from picking up his feet, to putting a saddle on to travelling him. altthough he still showed the same intelligence, he was very flighty, nervous, and submissive. we took him to dublin horse show last year and he was a nervous wreck, but i just kept him working all week and by the time it came to his class he went foot perfect, he also shows great promise over fences, but all the time he is more worried about what you are doing up on his back rather than anything else!

the other 3yr old mare was very very quiet and obliging.

i am so excited out my mare, i feel she has lot of promise, i intend to bring her on as far as i can and then perhaps let her go on to a proffessional eventing yard to see her true potential.

we met the stallion himself in gorey, co.Wexford, he is just stunning, so much presence.

anyone else have any views on Cult Hero?

I am still reserving judgement! I have seen some stunning animals but quite a few, especially fillies, appear to be a little stuffy. As they say down here "They all have a mammy" so without knowing the dams I don't want to base my opinions on that. Two people whose opinion I respect really rate him as an event sire and I am in two minds about whether to give him a shot this year with one of mine. Not much help really at all, Sorry!
