For showing in ridden and hunter classes should I have a metal or a leather curb chain?

If it doesnt really matter which one is best? I have a rugby pelham and double bridle but I havent used it yet as I havent bought the curb chain or lip strap.

Also could someone please clarify the purpose of a lip strap? I know you are supposed to have them on a pelham but in practice most people dont, so they actually serve a purpose?

The type of curb chain really depends on how sensitive your horse is to it. Some find the metal ones a bit too much so if you arent sure Id go with a leather or webbing one.

The lip strap is there to ensure your curb chain stays put....theres nothing like hunting round a large field trying to find the chain, the lip strap secures it to the bridle!

The main purpose of a lip strap is to prevent the horse getting the cheek of the curb bit in his mouth. Highly dangerous.
