Do they need to fit snug or with a fingers width ??!DONT panick, Thanks all. Oh and the lip strap thingy?thats just there to keep chain flat, right??Is it ok to use curb without a leather strap?. ps i have a very strong nelly,so rather try the best way and alter if its too much for him!

I always go for one finger underneath, anymore and it's too loose and if you use the curb the shanks rotate back. You don't have to use a lip strap (I don't) but it is more correct

On a full double bridle - the curb chain should only come into action when the shank is at an angle of 45 degrees.

If you are using a Pelham/Kimblewick or Uxeter then the chain needs to go through the rings to allow the chain to sit in the chin groove. If put behind the bit then the chain sits on the thin edges of the jaw bone - very painful
