From the little knowledge i have of them it is where there has been too much strain on the tendons and bones too soon and this is what causes them, ive only known one horse with one so can't really shed much light sorry!

they tend to pop up when they're fairly young due to strain, as Bugsy said. I don't believe there's any way to get rid of them, but once they settle I don't think they cause any problems with soundness.

But it's not good news for showing, I'm afraid. What a shame!

the horse that i know of that has this has the vet out and im not too sure what he put on it but put some cream i think to make it pop and was supposed to be X-tied for 48 hours so he couldn't rub it of, so i pressume that it would have been quite sore for the poor chap!

yeah i asked the judge wether i sohuld carry on showing him or not and he said yes at agricultural level and with it being small some judges may not notice it but he cold never make it to HOYS or royal international level ... but hes 11 now so i think its there for like and its not affected him while ive had him so i wouldnt like to start messing with it..
i am aiming him for the working hunter and the judge said they may be a bit more forgiving in that >?

Tbh i don't think horses with curbs make it far at all in the showing ring, the owner of Fritz had some top showing people in to look at him and didn't just for the fact he had a curb so i wouldn't really look into the showing side of things, they don't usually cause problems with lameness etc and Fritz is now happily out eventing at Novice level
