Curious mark on horse's neck

My new broodmare, bought in November in full winter coat, has a curious light-coloured mark on her neck in her summer coat. She is rich bay except for this sandy coloured splodge, about 2 inches by 1.5 inches, where her neck goes onto her shoulder. Whilst it appears to be primarily cosmetic, and therefore of no importance to me whatsoever, when she gets worked up about anything, that one small patch sweats profusely.

Does this mark have a specific name, and should I be concerned about it?

Cruiseline had a similar problem to this if you look up her previous posts - can't remember anything more about it than that (other than it was on her horses quarters!) Sorry!

My new horse has the same on his quarters in an upside down 'V' shape over the top of his quarters. He sweats from just this area and it is also a different colour of hair.

Will see if I can get a photo up. The general thoughts are nerve damage but not sure how he has aquired it over both sides??

Both my horses have had the same small patch at the base of their necks where they would sweat heavily from when they were worked up. I think it must be quite common!

Many thanks Scotsmare - I found a post by Cruiseleine updating her original post, and it sounds exactly like the mark my mare has. Slightly worrying that she might have been injected quite at that spot - far too near the scapula - but it didn't appear to have done any significant damage, as she went advanced eventing before retiring from a field injury.

Many thanks
