...your ponies have a sudden bout of lami or keep it to once or twice a year?

My brat pony has just been kept on a bare paddock after showing signs of being foot sore last Saturday and I have him booked in for a vet check and blood test again for Tuesday just to see if his pergolide levels are still ok or if he really can over indulge whilst being muzzled 24/7:rolleyes: Managed to catch him early after him edging off the stones and looking a little short in his front legs whilst being lunged.

His next blood test wasn't due till September time, 7/8 months or so after his first one of the year.

Do you keep to routine testing or test when laminitis occurs? I'm sure I'm being overly cautious but I like to know how he's coping on just 250mcg and whether he shall have to be kept off the grass until the herd have devoured most of it:D

ive been lucky so far as my horse hasnt had laminitis, i know when she is not quite herself (being a little grumpy and not really wanting to be groomed) so then have her blood tested so levels of prascend can be adjusted BEFORE signs of laminitis. i dont wait for her to be footy.... have just had her tested and have put tablets up to 2 1/2 daily, obviously on my vets instructions...

My horse has only recently been diagnosed so we are currently trying to work out the exact dose of prascend (pergolide) she needs to keep her levels normal. She started on 1 tablet, got re-tested after 5 weeks and was normal so we dropped it to half a tablet. She gets re-tesred next week and if she is still normal will stay on half a tablet. However I suspect she might have to go back up to 1 as I feel she has been not quite right the last couple of weeks (though may just be due to the strange weather). I'll obviously take the vets advice but I would probably want her tested again in the autumn as this is when their ACHT levels can go though the roof. Then there is the dread of winter laminitis...... :(
..so maybe another test late in the year.
So I would suggest you discuss it with your vet, and see what they reccomend.
