I would just like to say that I have been giving my cushings horse Agnus Cactus for the past two weeks and I can say that I have seen a vast improvement in his coat. His coat has gone from being very coarse and he was looking very scruffy to being fine, shiny, fluffy and looking absolutely superb.

Thank you to Tankey for recommending this, I'm hoping to see further improvements the longer he is on it.

Agnus Castus is chaste berry, its a type of berry/herb basically. I tried it on mine but it didn't do anything that I noticed. He has now been on Pergolide for a few weeks now and has definately perked up.

I have been reading up a lot on this as my pony was diognosed with cushings last week, he as started pergolide this week and was wondering could he have this herb as well. Is,nt also called chasteberry ?? and can help mares with seaonal problems.

You're welcome Prickly, glad I could help

Just a warning.....you will be called a nutter for actually saying homeopathic remedies work, AND that you have proof

Actually, I picked up a couple of cats from our local rescue centre last week. One of them had been there two months and had spent that time hiding under the sofa, physically shaking with fear. So, got him home and he did the same for a day, then i dragged him out from behind our sofa and gave him and arsenicum remedy and by the afternoon, he was as happy as larry, and still is....playful little thing

Agnus Castus is not homeopaty - it is herbal in nature. It acts as a hormonal regulator and should be used sparingly - a teaspon a day of the ground powder is adequate.

The rather expensive Vitex product is simply an aqueous extract of Agnus Castus. Yo ucan make this yourself easily th an old 1.5 l bottle, some boiling water and a teacup of ground agnus castus berries and a fridge. Since Agnus castus costs $5 a Kg from Cotswolds, and Vitex £35 a half litre (or something silly like that) ....

But it's Ok just to sprinkle the ground berries on the feed. No need for making aqueous extract if you don't want to.

Can make a big difference to all sorts of problems. We use ot for a riggy cob, and for a geldign who gets stressed by the mares in the next field when they are in season.
