Does anyone have any have any experience with Equine Cushings? Specifically rebuilding muscle loss.
The reason he was tested is because he has lost so much weight.
Under his saddle he has lost a lot. He is worked sympathetically, but isn't engaging his stomach muscles at all.
Is this something that he can regain if he starts meds?

yes I have experience as it was my horse's biggest problem. It does start to improve once you start on the prascend however mine came to a bit of a stop and I realised the protein levels were too low for him. I added soya bean meal (extracted, cooked SBM) which I got from D & H. This helped a lot. I also have a brilliant chiropractor and he has worked several times on the horse to repair the damage. All that along with constant daily riding, (slowly!) and a good quality supplement and extra vit E, and getting the diet absolutely spot on.
I am 11 months on and he is a different horse.

Loss of back fat is sadly a symptom of cushings. In our case our lad went unrideable because of the loss. He had been diagnosed some 6 years earlier and on pergolide (You can't gte that now.) For him it was rather the beginning of the end; but we switched to longlining and free jumping which he loved. We never tried to re-build the loss. We knew where he was and he was a happy little lad until the final week. From the time we had to stop riding he stayed with us another 8 months. And we miss him still.

Housemouse..check out the PPID/EMS facebook group, am sure others on there will have some great advice help for you...my lad has lost muscle over the last 4 months ( due to cushings and weight loss) and i have started long reining him to help fitness and muscle...will be adding side reins in soon to aid working of muscles.....also there are a few physio moves you can do everyday to help him lift his tum up, flex his neck etc....
