Cushings and Skin Infections

My lovely, lovely natured 28 year old gentleman x cob was, earlier this year, diagnosed with Cushings. He is currently on Prascend to treat this condition. Fortunately has not yet had any laminitis bouts, but has now started to develop a whole lot of skin infections, which are clearly itchy. Have been treating by washing regularly with hibiscrub and keeping grooming brushes disinfected to prevent re-infection. Does anyone have any tips on how to make him more comfortable and how to keep these infections under control. He seems so sad and its so unfair as he trusts us 100% and ill let us do anything to him, I feel like I am failing him......

Sorry if I'm being thick and have misunderstood elsewhere (it's also late and I'm a bit addled), but doesn't frequent use of Hibiscrub have some detrimental effect on the new cells/their formation?

What does your vet say?

We had a young shire mare with cushings syndrome, the first symptoms were skin infections/skin lesions, which the vet initially diagnosed as mud fever. Sadly the outcome for her was not good I can't offer any management tips, but do hope your old lad doesn't go downhill too fast.

Thank you - how sad, for a young horse especially. Fortunately my boy is clinically very sound and in good shape - and I want to keep him that way for as long as I can, and as happy and as comfortable as I can. We have been advised to shampoo three times a week and clip back to within an inch of his life, here's hoping, fingers crossed!x

Our 17 y/o Sect D mare was diagnosed with Cushings and despite the evident curly coat she is moulting like mad and has not yet developed any signs of skin infections or lesions.
She is however very dandruffy and needs a bath a few weeks after her last one!
She is doing very well despite everything and on the up, and I hope its the same story for your lad

Is it on his face and legs only? My pony with cushings every summer would suffer from a bad reaction to harvest mites a rub his skin untill it was sore and weeping, it was quite hard to manage but it did get better
