Let the ponies out of their night paddock this morning and out with the rest of the herd and cushings pony just isn't quite right. He's still muzzled in the main field as there is still a carpet of green grass but this morning he walked in and parked himself next to the fence and stood there not doing anything. He wasn't interested in eating at all. I poo picked and then brought him in. Pulses and feet fine, could barely feel anything so popped him in his stable with a small hay net and his toy nut ball. He ate both willingly and seemed to brighten up a bit. Kept him in for a couple of hours whilst I did odd jobs and then took him back out as he starts to climb the door if left:rolleyes: Walked him back to field, and as I spent another couple of hours moving fencing etc etc, he again parked himself by the fence and didn't move. He laid down for 20 mins and then got up. He's more than perky if you offer him some nuts but he eventually wondered off sniffing grass. He appears lethargic and very slow when he walked away but he headed off to the herd.

I've got a friend checking him just after lunch to see if he's any brighter and if not I'll see if a vet is out close by to take a look. He does have down days but this is the quietest I've ever seen him. He hasn't had his medication upped for the past couple of months and despite his results coming back border line last week from his Autumn check up (his ACTH was 47, the norm is 49) the vet was happy with what he was on and check again in a few months.

Is he just having a depressed day or am I right to call the vet if he doesn't brighten up?

Hi,

Our Cushing pony suffered what I could only call depression. She had bad days and better days until some-one suggested trying agnus castus (chaste berry). I was very sceptical but it works... And the change happen in about 2 weeks.

We don't give her it any more as she seem so much more her old self, even takes the odd nip at us. Can highly recommend it.
