Hi all
Had some great advice on here since taking a friend's lovely old mare on loan.
She went lame after losing a shoe recently and vet said she didn't think it was lami but suggested because of her age (25) we test for Cushings.
She's no longer lame but I had the news the test was a definite positive result. Trying to swot up as much as possible on how to manage, what to check for etc. She has none of the obvious symptoms yet really so it seems we've caught it early. I have cried a lot but now need to do whatever I can to make the most of the rest of the time I get with her if she needs to go home 😞

Any advice or experience anyone can share?

What were the levels reading at? I had a loan pony for my son, she tested positive at 678. Readings above 29 are considered positive. If she's not displaying any symptoms as much I wouldn't worry too much but take the vets advice. The obvious one with cushings is the risk of laminitis so the first thing I would do is monitor weight and remove sugar from her diet.

Around 140. So vet described it as a clear positive but nothing advanced.

She's currently turned out 24/7 and has a feed when in or ridden. Fast fibre, alfalfa chaff, coconut oil, turmeric and black pepper. She's in a field that does have lots of grass but I suspect the yard I'm at couldn't move her long term as limited grazing so I'd have to change yards.

If you're on Facebook join the equine cushings group, they've been an amazing help since my boy was diagnosed a few months back.
