Hi a pony on the yard has laminitus at the mo owner knew when she brought her she was prone but we have had her for over 2 years and never had a problem it all started a while ago and for no apparent reason she fell over on the yard next thing over the next few days she started to show signs of laminitus! bit chicken and egg did she fall because ofthe lammi or did that trigger a attack (showed no signs before this) she is fed very little small amount of winergy was in work before this prob atleast 4 times a week and had limited haylage which has been fine for the last few years but when it came on she wasnt being turned out. anyway have since had special pads on her feet were told to take them off when she was walking ok which we did she was fine for aleast a week then all of a sudden bad again she is being kept in doesnt suffer with weight has small amount of haylage through the day but she keeps getting almost fully better then coming down bad again

i am thinking it is Cushing induced as nothing changes when she gets bad again

any thought on this greatly recived

My friend bought a pony in Jan. Since having her she has had a few bad bouts of laminitis. The most recent once has been severe, and touch and go. Pony has been in for a month now and the blood test for cushings has come back positive. This pony is impossible to get weight on, has been getting laminitis approved feed and is on poor grazing. She has since been put on pergolide and we'll need to wait and see what the x-rays say on thursday.

If you are suspicious re cushings it may be worth getting the blood sample done.

This pony had a few other signs, looked poor during the summer, sticky eyes, failed to loose winter coat etc etc.

get a blood test done by the vet.
If she doesnt want to do that, another qay to see what happens is it just try the horse on pergolide to see if the horse improves without the diagnosis (this will basically diagnose cushings without the tests......)

My pony has cushings induced lammi. We really thought we were going to lose him he couldnt walk atall however my vet said try him on pergolide which he issued. My pony had an extra 4 years and went back competing and pony club etc. He was put down this oct age 28 as the cushings finally took hold

but the drugs worked wonders! Talk to your vet.
