cushings?

Growing a long curly coat is normally the first give away..no moulting or coat changes through the seasons.drinking/weeing more than usual.The fat pits sink in above the eye sockets..Can be more prone to Lami.

Keeping a cushings...I used to keep mine fully clipped all tear round,it made her much more comfy (it's easier to rug then let them sweat).I use to monitor water intake when stabled.

One of mine has Cushings and the only sign ever has been that he got laminitis in the middle of winter, when on no grass or change of feed.

After 2 years he still doesn't have the long coat or any other signs.

One of mine has cushings, it's normally in older ponies. Symptons are ;
A very hairy coat (summer coat more like a normal horses winter coat)
Doing number ones a lot
Drinking a lot
Very prone to lamintes
and sometimes they age faster.

Cushings once diagnosed can be treated with medicene. My boy has his pecription from boots! Hope this helps :)

The coat won't moult to a short summer coat in spring, but it may not go curly. My mare didn't go curly, just very hairy. There may also be muscle wastage. I thought the fat pads above the eyes filled up/protruded, rather than sank as in a normal elderly horse - this was another symptom she had. They're more prone to infections etc, & laminitis.

my mare has it. she grows a very thick winter coat (not curly). fat deposits above her eyes. she drinks alot and is prone to lami even in winter. she has muscle wastage and has a pot belly.
they also have a rubbish immune system and are prone to infection and mouth ulcers
my mares symptoms are controlled by pergolide so she is very comfortable and hasnt even started to get hairy yet (thank god)
