Cushings

Does anybody have experience of cushings in dogs?

My sister's 10yo Cairn Terrier possibly has it, she is waiting for a diagnosis. She has to wait 6 weeks (I think) before she can be tested as she is on steroids for a skin complaint and apparently steroids can affect the test results. She will be tested once they have cleared her system.

I was just wondering what the symptoms are in dogs, and also the medication options? Is it the same as horses (I know quite a bit about that!)?

Common symptons are drinking and urinating alot (Polyuria and polydipsia), pot bellied appearance, hair loss.

Treatment is normally oral medication - capsules daily. An ACTH stim test is normally performed not long after starting medication to check if the dosage is working or needs adjusting.
