God its costing us £3.90 a bale with minimum order of 480 bales!!! I've not had to use that much a week, but agree on the wet part! not very good at soaking things up!
I also find it doesn't stay clean for very long and soon begins to look tatty and dirty
We've got 20+ horses bedded on it - some with rubber matting as well but still get enormous beds and banks, and we find it totally depends on the horse - one horse may use 2 bales a week, whilst another has basically a new bed every couple of days, but that's him on whatever type of bedding he's had for the past 25 years! As for soaking up, we've never had a problem with it. It also has the benefit for us afterwards, in that every couple of months, its taken from the muck heap and put on one of our exercise tracks, which gives a great surface to canter the horses on. The farmer who maintains our track has also commented on what good soil is now underneath. As for the price, it not only depends on how many you want, but the distance it has to be transported to. All in all, no complaints at all, but then they are mucked out fully each morning and skipped out in the evening again so this keeps the beds looking decent.
