Custom tack? (please excuse my nonexistant knowledge!!)

Rather than spending the earth on a crazy number of matchy-matchy things (which I know I would do, given the opportunity :o ) I'd quite like to save for some customised tack, which I would not like bright matchy-matchy stuff for as it would distract people from the pretty decorations :p

Some friends of mine are leather workers and make a number of items (bracelets, bags, tankard holders etc). They tool or stamp (depending on the design) and then paint it before using a kind of fixing chemical (?).

I'm wondering if anyone might know whether it would be possible to buy tack and then have that decorated (in which case I'll take the business to my friends), or if I'll have to find someone to make it for me? Does anyone know of any companies that do this already?

Thanks :) wasn't sure if there was a particular reason for it not being done..

Mentally I've spent hundreds - possibly thousands - on match-matchy glitzy stuff that I would hardly ever use. This seems like it could be a pretty good deterrent when I eventually get my own horse!
 
I don't know if with some saddles the leather isn't thick enough? Western saddles have really thick, tough leather. It would work with bridles though surely! And headcollars!!
