Winston cut his hind leg just below the stifle with wire a week last sunday.
The wound was around an inch wide (at the widest part) and about 4-5 inches long.
Now the vet came out on the tuesday to give annual injections and she felt just keeping him moving, hosing and applying cream should be fine.
Now since the Friday its become more YELLOW and Reddy in colour, the leg itself is actually down now, but the area is still warm. Its been forming a second skin, but i could make out yellow puss coming up through in parts.
Winston is totally sound and started to be ridden on Friday. Saturday he went for a hack and it was hosed and steri pods squirted in. Yesterday it looked more manky mainly due to straw had got into it, but i rode him then hosed it off. I started picking and dead skin around the wound was falling off into my hands. Now the wound is huge! and very yellow in colour so i continued to hose until all the puss had gone. The wound still looks yellow tho

Again applied salt water and cream (its a wet film to stop it dryign out and then cracking) but im not sure now what to do. I have today hosed it again and another second skin is forming but again not very nice colour. I applied a dry poultice this morning to keep it from getting further bedding into it as hes prone to rolling and to try and dislodge further infection.
What to you guys think i need to do? vet didnt think he needed an anti-biotic injection and im thinking of getting some Camarosa (sp)
HELP!

Thanks Amy, so annoyed that Katie didnt do that last week when she was out.

I said, well what about on the safe side, but she was like, ark he'll be fine.

Here it is, not very good taken off phone and for some reason has distorted. But you get the idea.

Plus its sideways on the gash is from stifle down to toe rather than width ways.

Actually - it doesn't look to bad from that photo.

But if you are concerned (and I would always be careful with an injury in that area) then I see no harm at all in getting some cover.

Just anoying that you've got to pay for another call out.

lol im probably over reacting then, just it looks gross and i guess i dont see any improvement due to seeing it 2-3 times a day.

Mind you, if it was really bad he wouldnt be sound on it would he.

Thanks AM

I would call your vet and ask their advice. They may suggest antibiotic powders and cream which you could collect and save on call out?

Winston has had 24 hours of Camrosa cream treatment and the difference is AMAZING.
WIll try and remember to take pictures later at the yard, but WOW what a difference.
The wound actually looks to be closing up and the flesh is less angry.
