My horse came in with a cut on her coronet band/just above it last weekend and since then it seems to have gotten a bit worse...it's now larger and has a spongy lump coming from the centre of he cut. I've been putting tonnes of sudocream on it and have now started putting an over reach boot over it too. I'm worried that it's some sort of hoof infection or is this just what the "raw" coronet band looks like?
she has quite bad feet too.. could it be linked?
I'm worried what i've let my little girl do to herself!

Can you post a photo of it? That would give us a better idea of what you are seeing. If it is infection then you will obviously need to call your vet out for some anti-b's to clear it up.

It sounds like proud flesh, which is likely given the location.
You need to burn the excess off with a mix of antiseptic cream and copper sulphate crystals. After that you neeed to keep the wound covered and wet with a hydrogel/paraffin dressing. If any sign of proud flesh returning then use an Inadine dressing for 24 hours to keep it at bay.
The problem with the location is that the skin there is very mobile. Everytime a scab forms, the skin will pull and it will fall off, everytime it does so you get closer to proud flesh.
Keeping a dressing on a place like that will be difficult. You can leave a hydrogel/paraffin dressing on for 3 days, however I would go down the tubigrip/stable bandage route so you can keep a close eye on it, and move it when you want.

vet came today, thank god she did cause she noticed that it had gone into the hoof wall [only slightly]
she thinks another horse caught their foot and ripped the coronet band away. It looks proud but this is only due to flies though.
It's going to take a while to heal, i have to tub it with aniseptic wash, put on blue spray and use steriod cream for a week.
thank goodness it's not too drastic
