horse got its leg caught in barbed wirte i left leaning up against the fence in the paddock and germoline doesn't seem to be working. Do you think I should call the vet? The cut smells and has gone a funny colour & i'm pretty sure its a muscle you can see, could be a bone though ? was 3 weeks ago surely i shouldnt trouble the vets over this ?

Errmm, definately the vet..I hate barbed wire have seen some terrible injuries caused by it:( So the vet may be less than impressed but it doesn't sound like you can leave it any longer TBH!! I'd give them a call as soon as and get it looked at (Of course I'm assuming I haven't missed something and this isn't a wind up!!!!!!!)

thanks everyone might try hydrogren peroxide, would blonde hair dye be okay ?
no she's laid down & won't get up
if the hair dye doesnt work i'll get the vet, I shall try my best to get a photo tomorrow

Um, I'm only a nurse for humans but any wound that is not pink or red and definatly any wound that smells has bacteria in it. The wound prob has an infection in it. Especially if the area around it is warm. Germoline won't help here. Vet and antibiotics are needed.

Suggest if she is still lying down that she must be very tired. Have you tried giving her a paracetamol? Will a plaster fit over the injury, you don't want it getting dirty do you?

You need to get someone to sit on him to stop him getting up, then use a pressure washer on the wound. If all else fails, sell him on horsemart as a project - or loan him out. If you find the right loaner - they will pay £50 per week not to ride, and might be able to help with the injury.
