Flyn's tear to the loose skin above his stifle really doesn't seem to be healing. Tomorrow it will have been 10 days and should have his stitches out but looking at it tonight I am not sure the vet will do so. I know it is an awkward place to heal because it is constantly moving but I thought there would be more progress at this stage. It looks very clean however and he has been on antibiotics.

Can anyone suggest something to aid skin healing?

MSM cream - I used on my mare's hock wound as it kept cracking open. It helps the formation of new tissue. I also put the MSM powder in the feed. I'm fairly sure the cream is safe to use on dogs also, not sure about the powder though.

Hmmm I would suggest bathing in salt water.... it will help keep it clean but will also aid the drying out process, which needs to happen for it to seal and heal!?

Perhaps ask the vet when you go back too. x

They do take alot longer than usual cuts to heal as of the place it is.

I have know alot take over a month to heal but they are dry & clean before then if that makes sense??
You have done well for the stiches to stay in on such a site.

As long as clean I personally wouldn't over worry but see what your vet says when you see them.

Thanks for your replies - the vet did take the stitches out as they had become loose anyway and surprisingly the wound has stayed together - much more so than we expected and guess that the two inner stitches are doing their job and as they take a few weeks to dissolve - it should be okay. He had another jab of AB's and I just keep him quiet and keep an eye on it. Poor dog is climbing the walls with boredom!

i use a cream called Nu-Stock its a bright yellow colour and stinks to high heaven but its fantastic you can use it on horses and cattle too, do a google on it

i can vouch it works. i clean the wound with salt water, allow to dry then rub the cream in and do the same 2 days later
