cut on fetlock joint

HI - my horse had an argument with some white tape and had a deep graze on the outside front of her fetlock joint. She had some other pretty bad injuries that the vet has seen to and a course of antibiotics.
This injury which was probably one of the least damage was constantly oozing - I was washing it daily and applying dermoline.
2 weeks after the injuries I rode her and she went lame onthis fore leg. A swelling appeared so I iced it and bandaged it till the vet came the next day.
He gave her more antibiotics and said to hot poltice it for a few days.
The poltice has been clean now for a few days, so I have been bandaging it when she is out in the field as it is still open and if she lies down it will get dirty (it right on a pressure point).

I have her standing in the yard for a couple of hours aday with the bandage off just to let the air get to it. But it is just not healing over fast.

Any tips or advice as to anything else to try will be greatly appreciated.
 
I had a slow healing wound on a hind cannon bone that followed a similar course to what you are describing.

Someone on here recommended Equaide. It's such a different kind of product that it seems a bit of a leap of faith, but I found it excellent for sealing and healing a sticky wound. Which reminds me I must buy some more, it's a really handy product to have for emergencies.

thanks for that - is it like a glue that dries and seals?
I should try it as those injuries look much worse than this one - it was no bigger than a 20p but what bother it is causing.

i tried cut heal but it seems to stay soft and greasy and just rubs of on anything that she touches.
 
I suppose you could if you thought it needed extra protection but it's not normally necessary as it dries quickly to form a water resistant barrier. It's excellent on places that are hard to bandage. It means horses can be turned out without risk of contaminating the wound with dirt or flies.
 
as she was v.lame on the sunday and just ever so slightly lame on the mondday when he arrived reckoned it wasn't in the joint as she would have still been hopping lame.
