I took Zoom xc schooling yesterday and when we got back I noticed a small cut right on her coronet band. It is about 1.5cm long and right in the middle of her off-hind hoof. It is almost like she has chipped her hoof.

It bled when I applied pressure to it but she was not lame at all and was only sore when I really squeezed it. I cleaned it and put sudocrem on. If it was anywhere else the cut wouldn't worry me at all. But I know that coronet band injuries can be dodgy. What should I do?

I would call your Farrier

Henry once had a cut to the coronet band, as you describe. It healed just like any other cut, with a major difference characteristic of cuts here - where the cut infringes on the hoof, the hole left grows down the hoof wall. It's nothing to worry about, as the inner wall keratinises (hardens) to compensate, so there's no risk of infection. Just be prepared for it!
