Cut on leg that won't heal

My new pony has a cut on her leg just below the fetlock joint which won't heal. It is about the size of a penny and looks pink and healthy when I wash it. I've clipped the hair off with scissors to expose it to the air but it scabs over a bit and then starts oozing again. When she first did it it bled but now it is just pinkish to clear ooze.

I have put a medicated cream on, also tried purple spray and am now using Sudacrem. Does anyone have any other ideas on how to dry it up? Thanks.

I'd let it scab over and leave it be, unless the colour of the ooze changes, then it's inected in which case you need to get antibiotics. Otherwise everytime you wash it you're making it have to start from scratch healing again

Boiled and cooled salt water syringed on if she doesn't like you touching it. Make sure you have cleaned the wound first, however if there is any swelling she may need antibiotics. Duke had a nasty kick a few weeks ago which kept oozing but the salt water cleared it up within a couple of days. Good luck

And as Bossanova said once its scabbed over - leave it.

Thanks both. I don't think I explained it right in my original post. It doesn't actually scab over properly. The ooze just dries a little, although it's still very sticky. There aren't any "solid" scabs at all and it is still oozing. It definitely doesn't look infected, there is no swelling and no heat.

I have never dealt with such a simple looking wound before that just refuses to scab over. I am washing it once a week to keep it clean and try and get the actual pink skin exposed to the air and also keep flies off.

Try dabbing it with kitchen roll to dry it then put some cut heal jell on. reapply daily without washing off as this forms a protective layer, like a second skin.Every few days like every fourth you wash it of with something like a antibacterial soap solution. dry and reapply again until healing is complete.
You could also use o 2% hydrogen peroxide solution in the first instance as this oxigenates the wound and provides a healthier environment for the 'good bacteria' and also dries the wound. But not too much as it can also act as an irritant.

i would try giving silicea 30 tablets they aid in healing and are herbal, you can get them from most equine places, i used them when my yearling sliced his face open to the bone which could not be stitched and had to be healed from the inside out so had to keep removing any scabs that formed, the vet said it would take 6wks before it would even start to heal properly as was infected as well, but with the help of these tabs within 5wks it was completely healed, with no scaring or anything and this wound was about 3inches long, by an inch wide and rite down to the bone.it was flushed with hibiscrub 3times daily without the pony being sedated, intracite put into the wound and the tablets with his antibiotics, so would def try it as not expensive either. here is his face the day after we found it

Thank you partoow and foxviewstud. Some good advice there. I am off to the tack shop vet section this afternoon and, hopefully, I will get some results soon.
