Is it a old fashioned thing? I know two people who have had lame horses, one they knew what was wrong, left hind hamstring, the other they can't find what is wrong with it. Both had their feet cut right back and then shod. Both were sore and lame (more so) from it. So why do it?
I don't understand how it can help?

Hi there

Cutting back a horses hoof can often help with a horse that can over reach, also it will support a different part of the horses hoof, and can also help if the hoof is poorly formed, all of this is to be done only by a qualified blacksmith and with the supervision of a vet and with x-rays.

hope this helps pm me if you need any more help.
