I'm going to be cleaning my mares box out for foaling in April. She has mostly full mats down but a few odd shaped sections missing mats. I have a spare one that I want to cut up to plug the gaps as her current mats tend to spread out a bit but am not sure on the best way to cut through the rubber. They are solid rubber, probably 15 - 18mm thick.
Any advice appreciated :D:D:D

Ive had mats before that the manufacturers claim can be cut with a stanley knife when in reality it is far too difficult, but this is probably worth a go as depending on material and thickness may work (draw on in chalk or similar the line you want to cut). We have ended up using a circular saw (wearing masks to prevent inhalation of rubber dust particles) to cut some really thick mats at home! You may get a better suggestion from someone else on here though as we've only done a few stables for home use. Good luck, not a fun business luckily you only have one to cut! :).

I used a manual hacksaw for mine! OH did a few with the jigsaw but the vibrations were going right through me trying to hold them still! A good quality sturdy stanley knife may do them too

i did mine with a stanley knife but i had to have brand new blades to get through them. i also laid a plank on top, knelt on it to keep it still and ran the knife along the edge so it cut straight. it is do-able but hard work.

Stanley knife with nice new blade works for me, or the old chef's knife that I found in a drawer, with a proper steel blade that I sharpened with a stone.. :)
